What do Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard, company Chair Margaret Jackson AC, actor Claudia Karvan, composer Elena Kats-Chernin and restaurateur Kylie Kwong have in common? All five women participated in the inaugural Women in Finance Forum hosted by Deutsche Bank.
Held at the Museum of Contemporary Art and moderated by ABC radio’s Adam Spencer, the Forum was designed to encourage discussion between the five women who have achieved significant success on both the local and global stage.
Chum Darvall, CEO Deutsche Bank, addressed the Forum saying, “our simple vision for this event is for it to be part of a global program that promotes and encourages excellence in careers for women in the financial sector. As sponsor of the longstanding Women on Wall Street programme which recently attracted 2,500 attendees, we believe this event will further the awareness and opportunity for women.”
The capacity crowd heard from the panel on the issues of education, progression and representation of women in the workforce as well as the advantages and challenges of being an Australian woman in the global marketplace.
Christine Yates, President of Women in Finance NSW said: “The panel discussion was thoughtful, incisive and inspirational. Those amazing women, all from humble beginnings, have commenced an incredible journey that the rest of us have an obligation to continue. It really is testament to the strength of the women in finance membership that we were able to attract women of this calibre.”
